A Friendship, or Mirrored, 5 circuit labyrinth. There are two mouths that you can enter, both lead to the centre, where there is a peace symbol. Then you can exit either pathway. Two people can enter either mouth at the same time, following the pathway so that both meet at the center. You can choose to exit the same way or switch pathways and exit on the other path. This design is conducive to a classroom of students, because children can follow the pathways without colliding.

Directions/notes:
In the winter of 2000/2001 work began on constructing a permanent Cretan Labyrinth on the grounds of the church. Laid out in a natural clearing, canopied by Live Oaks, the labyrinth is 56 feet across and covers an area of almost 2,000 sq. feet. Initially made with ropes and wood stakes, the ropes are gradually being overlaid with stones. Vistors are invited to bring personal stones and place them along the labyrinth path. To access the labyrinth, visitors should enter by the main gate and take the Memorial trail, the start of which is fifty feet to the left of the entrance. The labyrinth is about halfway around the trail.

This photo was taken by Warren Lynn just after we finished painting this World Peace Labyrinth in the Paxworks studio in Indianapolis, IN USA in 2014.

Directions/notes:
Northeast Florida area, USA. This labyrinth is painted in four shades of blue, reflective of water and is dedicated to peacemaking and the nurture of community around the world. It was dedicated to my father at his memorial service for his work in restorative justice and conflict mediation - a work that he continued late into his 70's. The creation of this labyrinth was a part of my Doctor of Ministry project with McCormick Theological Seminary, researching the role of the labyrinth in building, sustaining and transforming community. My hope is that this labyrinth continues to lift up the vital role of peacemaking, conflict resolution, and community building wherever it travels.

The World Peace Labyrinth design was initially commissioned for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in the USA. It served as a quiet space for athletes and visitors to walk together, focusing on peace. There are seven small circular focal points in this design which correspond to the seven continents of the world. Symbols of peace from different cultures were originally painted in the focal points.
