Similar to Classical design except that the entry and exit are open. One has the option of walking into the center in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, and then reversing direction on the way out. Design reference: The Complete Guide to Labyrinths by Cassandra Eason, Pg. 99-101. This labyrinth does "obey the 'rule' that a labyrinth should draw you into the center...and then take you away again."

Part of the Spiral Labyrinth at Circle Sanctuary Nature Preserve.

Address:
Circle Sanctuary Nature Preserve
Barneveld, Wisconsin 53507
United States
view map
Directions/notes:
This Labyrinth is dedicated to personal and planetary peace, healing, wisdom, and well- being. The Labyrinth is in the form of a Spiral, an ancient symbol of rebirth and renewal. This Spiral Labyrinth is designed for spiritual transformation -- release of blockages through the widdershins (counterclockwise) journey to the center; reflection, insight, peace, and renewal in the center; manifestation through the deosil (clockwise) journey of return.

The Labyrinth is in the form of a wild plants hedge with mowed path. At night, the Labyrinth is lit by kindled votives in elevated spiral candle holders. Wooden benches for sitting meditations are sometimes part of the circle in the center, and sometimes, a small fire burns in a copper cauldron at the center.

The Labyrinth is open for meditative walking during festivals, classes, community days, retreats, and other events.

Facilitated group Labyrinth ceremonies are held during some Seasonal Festivals and at other times. Ceremonies have included passage rites (anniversary celebrations, memorials, ordination, others), guidance quests, seasonal celebrations, Full Moon rites, and healing circles.
